WordPress finally released version 2.8 (Baker) of their excellent WordPress blog software. Though immediately available for download on WordPress.org, I am still waiting for the update bar to appear in my administration panel.

WordPress reportedly fixed 790 bugs in this iteration and made improvements to its speed and interface. The most notable feature is the integrated theme installer, although I don’t think I will be using it very often.

On the other hand, the new widget control is a huge step in the right direction as it addresses  many issues with the old widget interface.  Other subtle differences like adding syntax highlighting to the inbuilt editors really help in alleviating difficulties in coding from the administration.

Anyway, here is a demo video from the WordPress team:

EDIT: Finally! The update bar appeared!
