I got a new ASUS F8Vr laptop (Core 2 Duo P8600, 4GB Ram, 320GB Hard Disk and ATI dedicated graphics) at the recent I.T. Show 2009 (see previous post). Additional freebies include a 250GB external hard drive, mouse, carrying case and thumb drive. With HDMI ports and eSATA on top of the usual components, I felt that this laptop was a really good buy. In fact, it was much, much cheaper (and powerful) than my current desktop. Furthermore, I am really impressed with the amount of thought and detail ASUS put into their packaging.

Spent quite a bit of time (about 2 days) trying to configure the laptop back to my previous laptop settings. Had to uninstall quite a few items like Google Desktop but thankfully, it has less bundled applications compared to my old desktop. Managed to get everything basic set-up including the face-recognition software. However, I am currently having some problems with the fingerprint reader…

On a side note, I have a habit of customizing my computer desktop (since secondary school)… So here is the latest screenshot of it:

Software I am using:

  • Rainmeter (for the battery meter, notes and desktop clock)
  • Rocketdock (for the Mac OS like dock)

The wallpaper is a combination of three different backgrounds which I tweaked and merged using GIMP.

What do you think?
