Fun at a Board Game Cafe

Not wanting to sit around at home at the computer when I am falling sick from erratic duty hours in camp, I went out for a meet-up with some of my camp mates yesterday, 13 March 2009. The goal was actually to have lunch and catch a movie, but as with all outings, it never goes at plan.

Lunch at Café Cartel was uneventful, with the exception of being tricked into ordering the wrong item. We only realized that the listing beside a picture doesn’t necessarily means that it was referring to the picture. As such, instead of ordering a 3 person platter, we ended up with a main course dish.

For the first time, we didn’t have any movies to watch. All the movies that we were interested in were either not showing yet or already finished their run. Guess we have to wait for the DVDs to be out. In the end, we landed up in Mind’s Cafe along Princep Street.

Mind’s Cafe is a board game cafe. Thankfully it was happy hour during that time…. otherwise that 3 short hours could have cost us a lot more. I must add that it has been a really, really long time since I played any type of board games other than chess. Definitely a refreshing change from our stressful work environment.

One interesting thing I saw there was a sign in the restroom… I took a picture of it:

1. I  was overcome by the fumes of the last visitor and have only just regained consciousness.
2. The door lock was jammed and I ended up having to blast my way out.
3. I fell into the toilet bowl and had to wait for my clothes to dry.
4. Some fool put superglue on the toilet seat
5. The voices kept telling me “Push button and you’ll win a prize!”
6. I’m obsessive compulsive and had to count the number of hairs on my … never mind.
7. I couldn’t get my zip undone so crept out back and worked on the damn old thing in the tool shed.

In my opinion (like most sms jokes), you should add another line:

Reason 8: You took so long because you were reading the “7 Good Reasons WHY You Took So Long On the Loo”

Anyway, after finishing up the games, we ended up in Borders. It wasn’t really books that drove us towards it… rather, my friend wanted to check out whether he was dreaming when he saw that the Apple 32Gb Ipod Touch was $498 in the Apple Store… My gosh, we were surprised that he wasn’t dreaming….

What a weird way to end the day, but it was definitely some great fun.
