First Plugin Release: URL Shortener
October 23, 2009The URL Shortener Plugin for WordPress was a little side project I did for my upcoming re-design and re-alignment of my website and blog. The plugin was born out of the desire to integrate a one-click/auto Short URL generation to be used in twitter or other services. I didn’t like to keep going to the URL Shortening websites and manually submit the URLs. It was simple but tedious after awhile.
I developed this plugin for private uses initially but have since decided to release it to the community. As such, at the time of release, the plugin has undergone 4 iterations. As such, the first public release is at version 1.4, with simple validation added to the plugin options page.
It is released under GPLv3 and current supports the following services:
- TinyURL
- is.gd
- bit.ly
- tr.im
- su.pr
- snipurl
- cl.gs
- Short.ie
More maybe added in the future. I am hoping to integrate ping.fm as well… Other than that, I haven’t really thought about the future development plans for this plugin yet.
For more information and Screenshots, head over to the plugin page or Google Code Project Page
I am attempting to get it listed in WordPress extend as well. That way, at least I can get automatic updates to the plugin via the administration interface.
(EDIT: The plugin is now listed in WordPress Extend.)
