Facebook Username Grab
June 17, 2009Its been quite a while (time online seems to be measured differently) since Facebook launched “vanity” URLs into the public. As reportsed on last friday by Mashable, 200,000 usernames have been registered in 3 minutes, 500,000 in 15Minutes and 1 Million in an hour. In another report yesterday, Facebook had notified that 5.75 million usernames had been taken across the site.
So for those who hasn’t registered, probably you want to cross your fingers and hope it isn’t taken yet.
Whilst most of us would get a username that represents our name or at least part of our name (especially since its permanent), not everybody in the world thinks the same. Here’s a list of 15 non-name-related Vanity URLs that Mashable lists:
- Mirror, mirror: http://www.facebook.com/moc.koobecaf.www
- Coder: http://www.facebook.com/default.aspx
- It would have been cooler with .html: http://www.facebook.com/index
- Cat ran over my keyboard: http://www.facebook.com/alksjfalskjfoiwefalsdlasfaslleseouaiwejndlsknjkdfs
- The entire QWERTY keyboard: http://www.facebook.com/qwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnm
- Try harder: http://www.facebook.com/aaaaaa
- …that’s more like it: http://www.facebook.com/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
- …but still not as crazy as this one: http://www.facebook.com/aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
- 4chan: http://www.facebook.com/marblecake
- Keep dreaming: http://www.facebook.com/JackBauercouldwhoopChuckNorris
- Nice try: http://www.facebook.com/usrname
- Facebooksquatting, anyone? http://www.facebook.com/FIFA10 (compare to http://www.facebook.com/fifa09)
- Can you fix my Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/techsupport
- I’m no stranger to love: http://www.facebook.com/rickroll

I do think the “default.aspx” is quite creative. Although facebook is coded in PHP.
(UPDATE: as of this post’s publishing time, some URLs listed above seems to be inaccessible.)
On a sidenote, to the 25 people with my name, apologies..
