For those who are dependent on Google’s service, especially on Gmail’s contact management features, Google has made it simpler by providing a URL that is easier to remember.

So instead of typing the long URL,

http://mail.google.com/mail/contacts/ui/ContactManager

head over to

http://www.google.com/contacts

As with all Google initial launch of services, it is in beta.

It sure simplifies matters, removing the need to enter the Gmail interface just to check on a contact. However, I really hope that one of these days, Google will provide a better way to enable access of contact details on the desktop, or alternatively, Google can consider implementing Google Gears for Contacts.

It may be the trend to move everything we have on the desktop online, but we must also acknowledge the fact that we don’t have access to internet connection in some places.

For now, I still have to resort to syncing with gcaldaemon’s LDAP server on my local machine.
